What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Fishing on the Fly is a playable indie game in the final testing of features and levels. The core game mechanics and user interface are finished but some game art is not polished yet. We would like customer feedback on any potential bugs or features to add/improve before the full launch.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Ultimately, it would be great for the game to come out of Early Access within six months. If feedback is positive, it likely happen sooner.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The goal for the game is to challenge the player to solve fishing riddles and problems with an emphasis on the value of a player's time. Game balancing defines a great player experience and the goal is not to overwhelm the player with grinding. The Early Access version requires some game balancing. The player levels up to 100, but the required number of fish caught will change based on feedback. The target is for most players to reach "end content" in about ten hours, unlocking Infinite Game play mode. This mode allows for revisiting all game content with different variables in play. The goal for game balancing will be to integerate changes in a way that will reward the player and not alienate the community

The Early Access (EA) version of the game may differ from the full version (FV) of the game in the following ways.

1. The EA version does not have fully polished game assets, but all assets are complete. We are still in the process of adding normal and bump maps to >%50 of the game's art. Some feedback time in early access would valuable to recognizing particular areas for iteration of game art.

2. There may or may not be areas of the EA game in which the player can become stuck and have to restart the game while in a level. One level in the alpha testing had this problem and was addressed. There is a potential for the EA to have other levels needing to be addressed as well.

3. There is a trophy room where the player collects and accumulates gear, pictures and equipment. The player can walk around this room and it functions in the exact same manner as the UI, i.e. a player can select the fly vise to be taken to the UI fly tying section. A player can select a picture to be go to an unlocked level. This room graphically demonstrates a players progress too. The room is not currently in the EA version of the game today.

4. EA version will likely receive changes to Steam cloud saves, achievements, and in game purchasing as these will be new to the existing EA game.

5. The EA version's levels, or rivers to fish, most likely will change to some extent from that of the FV.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core game mechanics and UI are finished. This version has four working levels and two under development. These last two levels are the final level, that is just shy of being complete, and a secret level that is half way there. The Trophy room is about mostly finished but untested.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Price will not change when we leave early access. We may choose ship to ship DLC content in the form of levels, i.e. rivers to fish.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are currently soliciting feedback and would love to embrace content creation in the future. We are looking into ways of developing a deeper relationship with the Community. This is new to us, and we hope to embrace the tools to make a great game and provide the type of experience players expect from Steam games. In general, by being open and available to feedback in the development process, we hope to deliver a unique niche and experience to the gaming community.”

About This Game
